Event Details

1984 is a dystopian novel published in 1949 by English author George Orwell. This novel has woven its way into our culture and is cited regularly in discussions about censorship and propaganda. So let's find out what "Orwellian" really means by reading this classic novel. 

How this book discussion will work:

  • Sign up by Saturday, September 20.
  • Books available for check out beginning September 5 at the Library (just ask at the Info Desk) or you can read the ebook or listen to the audiobook on Hoopla.
  • Beginning September 21, you will receive an email each week with discussion questions and other resources to consider.
  • Each week, we will read a certain number of chapters but you can always read ahead.
  • If you are interested in sharing your thoughts, we will have a discussion board through Padlet (an easy to use online resource requires only basic registration). This is not required.
  • There will be an optional in-person book discussion meet up on Wednesday, November 5 at 7 pm.
